Woman to stand trial for placing GPS tracker on car of Ukrainian special forces officer

A charge has been filed with the court against a 50-year-old Russian-born woman who placed a GPS tracker under a serviceman’s vehicle.
The investigators established that in May 2025 the accused was in Russian territory, where she was recruited by a representative of the Russian secret service. She was later asked to conduct subversive activities on Ukrainian territory.

In pursuit of her criminal intent, she arrived in Odesa in June last year and rented an apartment in a residential complex in the Prymorskyi district as agreed.

She was instructed to identify a vehicle belonging to the commander of a unit of the defence forces – the SSU has indicated that it was a Special Operations Forces officer – in the underground car park of the residential complex.

Following instructions, in August 2025 the accused retrieved US$10,000 from an agreed cache at a construction site in the Khadzhybeiskyi district in order to carry out further tasks.

Later that month, she used some of the money to purchase a Chevrolet Lacetti and returned the rest to another cache in the territory of the residential complex. She also took a GPS tracker in order to organise surveillance.

Following her handler’s instructions, the woman placed the device under the serviceman’s vehicle, which was parked in the underground car park. The SSU says a hitman was due to use it to track down the Ukrainian serviceman and kill him.

The woman was detained later in 2025 while attempting to leave the country. She will now stand trial and is charged with treason (Article 111.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
